An Announcement And Firings…

The President Announces

A few minutes before six this morning the President’s campaign released a video narrated by the President to announce his reelection campaign.
The video was slick, touched upon emotions, praised his time in office, and presented what he thought the country would be like with “MAGA Republicans” back in office.
It was well done and played to the President’s issues, with no live Presidential words.
The video went to familiar themes. Republicans want to cut your social security, take away your right to vote, not allow you to marry who you want …….
Meanwhile the GOP released a video minutes later to provide a different view of the nation and world if the President were reelected.

Not widely talked about, but the DNC also decided that there will be no Democratic debates.
Thus, for the announcement, and at least until the general election is underway, the President will stay away from live activity.
That was the strategy that worked for them in 2020, and they will try it again.
The question is how will they avoid presidential debates next year, or are they hoping Donald Trump does again what he did in 2020 and blow debate one and cancel debate two? I expect we are going to see some major efforts to get the debates cancelled.

Tucker and Lemon

It was quite a day as Fox and CNN both fired major on air personalities within hours. You would almost think they planned it, which they didn’t.
Fox fired the host of the number one cable show in Tucker Carlson.
Now Fox can do whatever it wants, but I cannot believe how Fox handled this.
They put out a vague statement and that was it. No reasons, no explanation and no coverage by their hosts on every other show – all day.
How could you do that to your loyal base who made his show number one?
They had the nerve to cover Don Lemon’s firing on some shows, but nothing about their own? In fact, Hannity had a segment on Lemon’s firing without ever mentioning Tucker.
It owes its loyal viewers more.
Poor, poor leadership by Fox Management, and this will hurt them with some viewers.
There will be noise, and I think a bigger impact, than when Bill O’Reilly and Megan Kelly left.
Then we knew why.
I know it hurt them in the market as their share priced dropped 5%, a major hit.
And Fox critics loved it. An example:
The hosts of The View” who celebrated his departure by doing “the wave.”
Later, Ana Navarro led the audience in singing lyrics from the song “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye.”

As for Lemon, did any major host do more in the past few months to get himself into this position?
I was surprised he survived the Nikki Haley comment about women in their prime.
He followed that with more incidents, and you wondered what he had to do to be released.
Even on the way out he made charges against CNN as he tweeted:
“After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play.”
Which they (CNN) immediately called him out on as a lie.
“Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate. He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”

Thus, in the last 24 hours a President who most Americans do not think should run again, because he may not be up to the job, puts out a practiced video to announce his candidacy.
And, two leading voices on major cable networks are fired within minutes.
In the end, we the people will decide who wins and loses.

Just Another Quiet News Day.
