What The Weekend Brought
“I’m really excited to be here tonight with you — the only group of Americans with a lower approval rating than I have,” President Biden said as he began his remarks at the first White House Correspondents’ Association dinner since 2019.
That was right, the media has driven itself to the lowest levels possible! Well earned too.
Then he “joked” about Donald Trump:
“This is the first time the president has attended this dinner in six years,” he said. “It’s understandable! We had a horrible plague — followed by two years of COVID. Just imagine: If my predecessor came to this dinner this year, now that would really have been a real coup.”
One other thing he “joked” about that had a lot of truth to it was this:
“Our Republicans seem to support one fella,” Biden said. “Some guy named Brandon…” Yes they do.
The Speaker did not attend the dinner. She and a few congressional members were in Ukraine for a surprise visit with President Zelensky. Pelosi told reporters during a press conference in Poland that the trip was to “send a clear message to the world: America stands with Ukraine.”
The administration and congressional Democrats at the outset of the war were clearly leading from behind. Now that they see the Ukrainians are heroes and will not give up, they recognize the political advantage of supporting them. That’s good for Ukrainians as long as they follow through with military aid on a timely basis. It will really help the Ukrainians and the Democrats in November.
Of course, had she taken a bi-partisan group of congressional leaders the visit would have been more impactful, but why do that? The old adage that differences end at the border is another lost value of our nation.
In fact, a Washington Post/ABC News poll released yesterday showed some progress for the President and his party, especially the mid term voting preferences. Here is a report on the results:
President Biden’s approval rating increased slightly over the past two months, according to a new poll, but the latest numbers illustrate frustrations the American public still have with Democrats on a number of issues. The poll found that 42 percent of respondents approve of the way Biden is handling his job as president — up 5 percentage points from February’s 37 percent, which marked his low point in Post-ABC News surveys.
Fifty-two percent said they disapprove of the job Biden is doing, which is down 55 percent from February.
A poll of the generic midterm ballot, however, shows that the two parties are on equal footing — 46 percent of respondents said they would lean toward voting for a Democratic candidate if the election were held today, while 45 percent sided with a Republican candidate.
Here’s an interesting report from The Committee To Unleash Property, that came out yesterday. On Friday we mentioned that leaders in the congress were talking of raising taxes in light of run away inflation and an economy in trouble. Take a look:
We mentioned the other day Chucky Schumer’s tax increase plan. Turns out it’s even stupider than we thought. The Democratic plan to fight high energy prices is to…. raise energy taxes.
The Washington Post:
Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) has asked his caucus in recent days to craft proposals that ratchet up federal enforcement targeting the energy sector, according to Democratic aides, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe their deliberations. A wide array of Democrats, including Sens. Maria Cantwell (Wash.), Ron Wyden (Ore.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Tammy Baldwin (Wis.), are now finalizing measures that would impose steep fines for abuse, crack down on corporate consolidation or set up new taxes on oil and gas companies’ profit windfalls.
Speaking of dumb, did you see Homeland Security Secretary Alejando Mayorkas on Sunday talk shows?
He said his department has prepared since September for the lifting of Title 42, a measure that has allowed the government to prevent asylum seekers from getting court appearances during the pandemic.
Really, he said that.
The same guy who said he inherited the border problem and he had it under control! Hey Mayorkas, the border is a mess and you have no policy. You better hope no terrorists come through on your failed watch.
But, keep telling people all is well and you fixed it. You can fool some of the people all the time.
One more lie from the weekend. This time from Press Secretary Psaki. She said she does not know who Nina Jankowicz is.
Now Jankowicz is going to be in charge of disinformation for the administration. That’s a position kind of like Putin and other arm leaders have. They tell their people the “real version of truth.” You know, things like the “Ukrainians are Nazi’s,” with their Jewish leader Zelensky.
Well it seems to me Jankowicz is better suited to spread misinformation than define it.
After all she has been all in on the Hunter Biden’s laptop as a “Trump campaign product.” She called it false. She was all in on Russian Collusion, saying Trump was working with Russia. She called the Steele Dossier real. She also made some polarizing comments about Elon Musk’s Twitter purchase. After all, banning the NY Post for a real story was right I guess. You get the idea.
Now she is being put in charge of the Department of Homeland Security’s Disinformation Governance Board to tell us what is real.
Take note, she reports to Homeland Secretary Mayorkas who I called a liar above, so I guess that makes sense. Let’s see what the two together can drum up.
