Just following up on yesterday’s story about the NYT and its character assassination of Brett Kavanaugh. Here’s what the times said:
Editorial page editor James Dao:
“The Opinion section, like other parts of The Times, has a process for writing and editing social media copy. In this case, the process was not followed properly, resulting in a story that fell well below our standards. The department is reviewing with everyone involved — including me — what went wrong to determine how we can avoid similar mistakes.”
In their Editorial they said:

This was nothing short of a character assassination and heads should roll. If the NYT wants to remain a reliable source they must take politics out of their coverage. It was reported this morning that sources say that the reporters initially pitched their reporting to the news side, but top editors ultimately felt that there wasn’t enough juice to warrant a story there. It ended up moving “the scoop” to the Sunday Review section.
Two tweets I saw on this matter I want to share, as I think they capture the right’s thought on this.
“Believe Women!”
“But the woman says she doesn’t remember it.”
Oh well, then Believe Men Who Tell Stories About What Happened To Women 30 Years Ago At College Parties!”
Believe facts, believe evidence, believe corroborating witnesses. Don’t believe the NYT.
Meanwhile, while the Presidential candidates were calling for Kavanaugh’s impeachment on the false story (which again calls into question their leadership and judgement abilities), the person who would lead the house inquiry (Jerry Nadler), said “he has no time”. He has “no time” because he is leading the “Trump impeachment” inquiry. Can you believe all this? Imagine if we had a fair media how much of a laughing stock this would be. Wouldn’t the late night comedians have a field day if this were reversed and Republicans were doing what the Democrats are? Instead we get crickets.
But don’t worry, Nadler’s committee has former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski today. They want to know whether the President obstructed justice. Mueller wasn’t enough you know.
And oh yea, New York State prosecutors in Manhattan have subpoenaed eight years of President Trump’s tax returns as part of a probe into whether a payment to adult-film actress Stormy Daniels violated a law against falsifying business records.
FOLLOWING UP ON IRAN:
Yesterday the President seemed to back off his “locked and loaded” comments to say he was awaiting reports. Why?
Well first he needs to be careful. Second, he really doesn’t want war. Third, he realizes as we wrote this it is not our fight alone. Fourth, there is a question about who did it. Check these two thoughts out:
1. American intelligence indicates Iran was the staging ground for a debilitating attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil industry.
2. The timing of the attacks is deeply suspicious. The attack came just as President Trump has been considering taking a small step back from his campaign of harsh economic sanctions on Iran. But there are plenty of people who don’t want an outbreak of diplomacy.
There could be a question now. Better to get the right answers before locking, loading and bombing.
Finally, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, says there won’t be any talks with the U.S. at any level. Iran plays by different rules and this is going to be a challenge for the administration. |
