So Much Out There …..

Questions and Thoughts With So Much In The News:

What does it say about the MSM and the coverage they gave the new Green Deal that not one senator voted for it?
Where were the announced Democratic candidates who touted it? Not one had the courage of their campaign words?
Voting “present” is political courage and a reason you should be President?
Four Democrats crossed lines (Manchin, Jones, King and Sinema) and had the courage to vote “No” with the Republicans.
And how smart are the Democratic Senators to have Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in position to answer when asked, “why so many Democrats in the upper chamber voted present,” respond “that she advised them to do so”. Oh now she leads the senate too?
Even crazier were their tweets after. Here’s one from Kirsten Gillibrand Today’s vote is a partisan stunt to side-step needed debate on climate action, and give Republicans cover to put oil lobby checks over our kids. I’ve come to expect nothing less from @senatemajldr. I’ll be voting “present.” I don’t play ball with bad-faith farces.
Wait, you were for the New Green Deal until they asked to vote for it? What was the stunt senator?

Now the FBI is going to investigate the Jussie Smollette case. All they can do is look into the letter and attempt to see if anything illegal was done. They cannot go back to those 16 charges and bring them up again. So don’t expect much, but there is a lot here. Someone did something to make this happen and it had to be high up if the police chief and mayor were taken by surprise.
It could impact the Chicago Mayoral run-off. One candidate is from the state attorneys wing of the party.

Michael Avenatti got arrested and this time his wife can’t change her mind. The man who CNN and MSNBC had on continuously and was considering a run for president as a Democrat, now faces charges that can lock him up for the rest of his life?
So let’s see, he faces charges in NY and LA. He is being sued by Stormy for his work with her. And his client (Stormy) owes Donald Trump $293,000 in legal fees from the false charges Avenatti brought to court.
On top of that:
Avenatti’s law firm filed for bankruptcy in 2017. He had a $10 million judgment against the firm in US bankruptcy court in 2018. He has unpaid back taxes. He attempted to force his way into the federal investigation of Michael Cohen, which a federal judge said meant the end of Avenatti’s “publicity tour.”  He was arrested in November on domestic-abuse charges.
Just a few days ago, his most recent ex-wife told The Daily Mail that Avenatti was “a deadbeat dad” who had left their 4-year-old son without health care.
In the end, Avenatti’s been revealed as all the things his former TV stations claim Trump is: a fraud, a liar, a con man, a thug, a megalomaniac who loves nothing more than media attention.

I suggest he find a lawyer with far better skills then his to defend him.

Let’s see, the President survived the house vote to overthrow his veto on the border crisis emergency declaration. So the President wins. Not much coverage, was there?
Now add this to the table (and wonder where the coverage is). On Monday of this week U.S. Border Patrol agents on the Southwest border took more people into custody than in any day in the past 10 years. Federal law enforcement agents made more than 3,700 apprehensions across California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas in one day.
Yesterday they reported over 13,000 people in custody. A crisis for them is 6,000. Read that again. Their rules are 6,000 is a crisis.
Now does the MSM or the Democrats have anything to say? Shouldn’t this be front and center?

Something funny to me was listening to Schumer and Pelosi yesterday blaming Donald Trump for the country’s ills.
I looked it up and Nancy came to congress in 1987. Chuck in 1993. Think about that. Trump arrived two years ago January.
Who owns the state of anything wrong?
In fact since 1987 we have had 16 years of Republican Presidency and 16 years of Democratic presidencies. Since 1993 (Chuck’s time) we have had Democrats for 16 and Republicans 10.
So tell me again, how is this Trump’s fault?

Barbara Bush, according to a new book, blamed President Trump for her heart attack. What else can they blame this guy for? This from the book:

“It wasn’t technically a heart attack, though she called it that. It was a crisis in her long battle with congestive heart failure and chronic pulmonary disease that hit her like a sledgehammer one day in June 2016. An ambulance was called to take her to the hospital. The two former presidents who had been at home with her that day, her husband and her oldest son, trailed in a car driven by the Secret Service. The tumultuous presidential campaign in general and Trump’s ridicule of son Jeb Bush in particular had riled her. “Angst,” she told me”.

Take A Look At Cable Ratings

Take a look at the numbers as the story broke Monday on the Mueller release.  FoxNews dominated, beating CNN and MSNBC combined. MSNBC lost the most viewers, but CNN really tanked to lows for this breaking story.
Maybe the viewers of both were just mad they were lied to for two years.

Post Mueller Report Impact on President’s Numbers:

Now the President has never cracked 50% approval in any poll for more than two days with Rasmussen. Here are the first polls out as the week unfolds:

Poll:                    Trump Approval              Disapproval             +/-
Economist                 46                                           51                        -5
CNBC                            40                                          49                       -9
Rasmussen                49                                          50                       -1

We’ll track this the next few weeks to see how it moves.

Here’s the latest Democratic Primary Polls:

Biden 35%
Sanders 25%
Harris/O’Rourke 8%
Biden           31%
Sanders         23%
Harris/O’Rourke   8%
Emerson (Iowa)
Biden           25%
Sanders        24%

So the unannounced Biden is in the lead and with his apologizing this week for being over 50, white males and the Anita Hill hearing you know he is running.

Illusions Continued …..

The Mueller Report Fall Out:

Amazing how Bob Mueller went from the saint who will tell the truth, to just another guy who was duped. The Democrat conspiracy theorists just can’t accept that the President did not collude with the Russians and to some is a foreign agent. Now they want to read the report. Some actually think AG Barr is misleading them, as if Mueller would not speak up.
Now when the report is released they’ll look at what was investigated and say “see there was collusion”, ignoring that Mueller and team thoroughly reviewed it. The other tactic will be, “we can’t see it all with what Barr redacted”, as if it is being hidden to cover a crime. Sounds preposterous? Watch the per-cent of gullible people who believe them.

Act 2 of this now is get past the release and then start to narrow in on who started it all. The MSM is not covering this angle, but someone led the country down a path with a phony dossier because they either believed the President was a crook or wanted to over throw an election. This could get ugly and some big names may emerge. At some point the MSM will have to cover it, and not as an opposition ridiculing the effort.
Watch what Lindsey Graham does in the senate.
Watch what Michael Horowitz finds and says.
Watch what the new DOJ does and who they go after.

Really Chicago?

So prosecutors drop all charges against Jussie Smollett. Then he does a press briefing and proclaims his innocence. Actually says he would “not be his Mother’s son” if he lied about any aspect of the incident.
Then a spokeswoman for the state’s attorney’s office said the charges were dropped because Mr. Smollett forfeited his bond and completed 16 hours of community service. But he assured us Jussie was guilty.
That was followed by  more strong rebukes from Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his police superintendent. Both were angry they were not consulted and the action taken.
What happened? No one knows, or is saying yet. It appears to us that political connections were involved. Remember the prosecutor who excused herself because of connections to Jussie and others? That is where the road leads. Will anyone have the courage to go down that path to seek the truth, or will Chicago politics prevail and this be buried? Bet the latter.

Foreign Policy News

More fallout from North Korea to keep an eye on. They have withdrawn from a liaison office that it shared with the South near the demilitarized zone since September. Its decision follows its recent threats to suspend nuclear talks with the U.S. Are things breaking down here?
There was some thought that the cloud hanging over the President with possible impeachment was hurting him in worldwide negotiations. Now that he is cleared and reelection seems more likely let’s keep an eye on foreign policy.

The other major move was to officially recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan. Past administrations promised this, like they did Jerusalem, but never acted. Trump has kept his word.

You know how you hear the charge that the President and his family have profited from the presidency? We think it’s the opposite. We have heard the President’s net worth as declined. Then there is this on the Kushner family business
CHARLES KUSHNER in the  Washington Post:
“Here’s the truth about my family and our business”: “Jared’s service to the country has brought unprecedented scrutiny of the Kushner Companies from the media and government investigators. We are happy to assist with all inquiries, but I must note that we are already voluntarily adhering to the strictest standards to avoid even the appearance of conflicts. As a result, we have passed up many business opportunities that we normally would have pursued. That might not be as alluring as some of the crazy stuff I read about my family and our business. But it happens to be the truth.”

Do The Democrats Still Want To Impeach?

Yes, they do. Congressman Greene was clear yesterday. Then add this

A FRESH IMPEACHMENT PUSH … REP. RASHIDA TLAIB (D-MICH.) has started circulating a letter that asks for co-sponsors to sign onto a resolution “to inquire whether President Trump committed impeachable offenses. Congress can provide an open and transparent process with the sole goal of ensuring we know the truth and make sure it does not continue, nor happen again.” The letter was sent around Monday night by Tlaib’s office.

— WHAT TLAIB WANTS INVESTIGATED“Whether the actions of President Trump and his businesses violate the Foreign Emoluments Clause. Through President Trump’s businesses in the United States and abroad, the president has received payments, regulatory approval, and other forms of direct and indirect financial benefits from foreign governments.

“Whether President Trump committed crimes to defraud the United States by directing Michael Cohen to make illegal payments to interfere and affect the 2016 Presidential election, which has eroded faith in elections and perpetuated political corruption.

“Whether the Special Counsel’s evidence on obstruction of justice pertaining to the President’s actions and intents violates federal law. We all swore to protect our nation, and that begins with making sure that no one, including the President of the United States, is acting above the law. I urge your support in recommending that the House Committee on Judiciary begin hearings, take depositions, and issue subpoenas to answer this question that is fundamental to the rule of law and the preservation of our democracy.”

THE RESOLUTION: “Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary shall inquire whether the House should impeach Donald John Trump, President of the United States of America.

“SEC. 2. The Committee on the Judiciary or any subcommittee or task force designated by the Committee may, in connection with the inquiry under this resolution, take affidavits and depositions by a member, counsel, or consultant of the Committee, pursuant to notice or subpoena.

“SEC. 3. There shall be paid out of the applicable accounts of the House such sums as may be necessary to assist the Committee on the Judiciary in conducting the inquiry under this resolution, any of which may be used for the procurement of staff or consultant services.”

THIS WILL BE AN INTERESTING TEST of the support of impeachment post-Mueller. But, in the end it is up to the voters to fix this.

The Russian Collusion Illusion …..

The Illusion:

So after all this time we come to the conclusion that collusion was a Democratic Illusion. You don’t need my comments on this so I will just share some facts that you should know:

The Democrats for two years said they will fully accept what Mueller reports. Let’s see their word on that.
Adam Schiff who has seen collusion and said he has the evidence, where is it? If  Mueller couldn’t find it, does that mean you failed to share it or you lied?
The same for Maxine Waters. You have been yelling “Impeach 45”. On what grounds? What’s your next move?
The sixty Democrats who said they would impeach. Did you rush to judgement or do you just want to overturn the 2016 election?

Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi released a statement that the report raised more questions than it answered. Does that sound like a prepared statement to you too?
And what questions does no collusion and no obstruction raise for you? If you can’t understand that, can we really trust them to run congress?

The new refrain appears to be “we want to see the whole report”.  I guess these people think they can lead the dumb forever where they want. There are three reasons you cannot read the whole report:
1. There is classified information in it. You understand that, but that doesn’t matter to them.
2. There is Grand Jury testimony. That testimony is non reportable and a promise made to the person going before the jury. I guess that doesn’t matter to Democrats anymore either.
3. There were investigations done of people who were innocent. Do they really want their names released and dragged through the mud for something they didn’t do?
Isn’t it amazing their followers will now follow them in this refrain?

Next, the coverage of the President has been 92% negative. Some of it earned, but a large part was about Russian collusion. The MSM harping of this charge and the chorus joining it as fact led to false coverage.
So what does the MSM do now to apologize,  make up for it and fix things?
As Raymond Donovan who lost his government position in the Reagan era angrily asked after he was fully acquitted in court, “where do I go to get my reputation back now”?
Where does the MSM go to get theirs back and make up for what they did?

Do you know these numbers and facts?
The special counsel cost us between $25 and 40 million dollars.
They utilized 40 FBI agents.
Issued 2800 subpoenas.
Heard from 500 witnesses.
Served 500 search warrants.
Received 230 communications records.
Did 50 phone taps.
Had 13 foreign government intel requests.
All to say No collusion and no obstruction.

Now remember this:
Russia donated over $145,000,000 to the Clinton Foundation.
Hillary Clinton sold 20% America’s Uranium to Vladimir Putin.
The Clinton campaign financed the phony Steele Report that led to all this.
Some in senior levels of the FBI pushed the phony dossier.

Shouldn’t we be investigating them now?
The hope is that Michael Hurwitz is doing that and his report is expected in 90 days.  If not, then someone should.

You may hear of the dozens indicted. Remember the facts:
The probe obtained guilty pleas from five Trump advisers. None related to collusion but to actions unrelated.
They indicted dozens of Russian intelligence officials for tampering. The officials are in Russia and will never see a day in U.S. court.

Finally, readers of this blog know that foreign interference in elections is nothing new. In fact the Russian involvement was long term and the media seems to forget Obama telling us, while he President. that he” told Putin to cut it out”. So this didn’t start with Trump. They are trying to fool you.
Obama interfered with elections. Remember how he tried to beat Benjamin Netanyahu? America has a long history of trying to get friendly governments  in place. Every country does. People can express all the indignation they want, it is another example of fooling people. Be smarter than that.

The 2016 election is over. If Democrats persist in going after Trump they now face backlash. Let’s see if their hatred is greater than their smarts.

Trump Keeps it Interesting ….

The President:

Between the President’s penchant to tweet, his unchecked ego and a MSM that is constantly out to get him, the news cycle never ends. Let’s see ….

He took on Kellyanne’s husband. First George called him “mental” and the President called him a “total loser” back. Wow. Did you ever see anything like that before?
Now imagine if the President kept his ego in check and when the press asked he said this: You know George and I have some differences, but there’s one thing we agree on. Kellyanne is the best. That would have eased things, but no, this President can’t do that.

Then he took on John McCain again. He had a case. McCain’s staff was spreading the fake dossier. Attack that. He did, but then, went the extra mile to attack McCain again. Attacking his staff would have done the trick and gotten the message out. Instead he ends up looking petty and losing the message.

Now on the other extreme, blaming the President for the New Zealand shooting is beyond fair play. Yes, the shooter mentioned his name, you no doubt heard that. However, did they tell you in the next line the shooter called Trump an ineffective leader? So there’s mentioning his name and mentioning his name.

The press has had a field day with the emergency declaration and need for Presidential veto too. They made it seem like this veto was  unprecedented.  For the record, it was Trump’s first veto after two years in office. How many vetoes did Obama have? Thirteen. Bush 43? Twelve. FDR had 635.
It’s not so “unusual”.

The Democrats

Now the Democrats, despite media cover are not looking any better. Look at them this week:

Beto, now that he is running against Democrats has things coming out. He wrote a story at 16 where he “fantasized about killing children”. When pressed he said,  “I was just a dumb 16-year-old and didn’t know any better.”
In the next sentence he supports the liberal position of allowing 16 year olds to vote.
Here’s an observation on Beto. He wants to please and answer questions on the spot and knows he needs to go far left. That is hurting him and will continue until he learns otherwise. Think of his answer to take the wall down. Yesterday he supported abortion at birth. He is thinking short term and it is going to hurt him.

Look at what the Democrats are flocking to this week:
They now want to change the voting age to 16, abolish the Electoral College, and increase the number of Supreme Court Justices.
Does that sound like a party confident in 2020?

For all the noise of the far left here’s CNN’s poll this AM:
Biden 28% Sanders 20% Harris 12% O’Rourke 11% Warren 6% Kerry 4% Booker 3% Klobuchar 3% Buttigieg 1% Castro 1% Gillibrand 1% Hickenlooper 1% Inslee 1% Delaney <1% Gabbard <1% McAuliffe <1% Bullock 0%.”
It will be interesting to see how they attack Biden when he announces.

By the way, they are raising funds for 2020 in a big way at the DCC. They announced a record $11.6 million raised last month, more than the House Democrats’ campaign arm has ever raised in any February — even in an election year.

News You Might Have Missed:

Remember in January when four American soldiers were killed in Syria? Lots of coverage. Well U.S. officials and their allies in Syria have detained several Islamic State fighters tied to that attack. Officials declined to provide details about how the fighters were identified and taken captive, or what information had been gleaned from their interrogations. But they were captured.

The biggest question with the Islamic State (ISIS) is this:
While most of the male militants who pose an immediate threat in Syria are killed, captured and imprisoned, there is no plan for dealing with women and children who may prove vital to its long-term survival.
Think of Osama Bin Laden’s son who is now leading Al Qaeda.

On We Go …..

Editor’s Note: We are making an effort to limit editions to free up your mailbox. As we get closer to 2020 we will go back to daily editions. Anyone desiring a refund let us know.

The two questions this week are:
– Will Mueller Report come this week? (We think not)
– Will Joe Biden announce this week? (He is running, but not this week).

Meanwhile the Democratic field is now up to 15 as Kirsten Gillibrand announces.
It will be crowded on stage beginning in June when the debates start.

You keep hearing “free” from them. There is no “free”. Medicare for all is not “free”. Someone is paying the bill. You have either higher payroll taxes or higher corporate taxes, which means higher prices. There is no such thing as free; you pay one way or another.

Did you notice the negative stories emerging about Beto? Do you wonder why they didn’t come out when he was running against Republicans?

Two candidates have already announced (Booker and O’Rourke) they would pick a woman as their running mate.
So, not the best qualified person, or they would consider. This is a way to show female voters that they are not taking them for granted.

If a woman gets the nomination watch for Sherrod Brown of Ohio to be the VP nominee.

The President And His Words:

Remember when the President said “we are out of Syria in 30 days” after the impulsive conversation with Turkey’s leader?
Well the U.S. military is crafting plans to keep nearly 1,000 troops there now. Why? We need to keep our word and protect Kurdish fighters. We leave and Turkey crosses the border and attacks them.

The President also was fine to attack the John McCain staffer for his leaking the Steele Fusion Report all over Washington. He should have stopped short of attacking McCain personally and let the actions speak for themselves.

Now we hear that North Korea is threatening to Scuttle Talks With the U.S. and Resume Tests. Why? They said:
Mr. Trump’s national security adviser, had created an ‘atmosphere of hostility and mistrust’ that thwarted the top leaders’ negotiations in Hanoi last month. After the Hanoi meeting ended without a deal, the North Korean leader had serious doubts about the merits of continuing negotiations with Mr. Trump.” We have neither the intention to compromise with the U.S. in any form nor much less the desire or plan to conduct this kind of negotiation.” The quote is from a report from Pyongyang by The Associated Press, which has a bureau there.
Isn’t that far from the President’s statements after the first summit?  The knock on the President is he negotiates as if it was a real estate deal in NYC.

Did You Hear:

That, Nancy Pelosi Speaker Revoked Vice President Pence’s House Office Space?
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has reclaimed office space her predecessor, Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., awarded to Vice President Pence. Republicans gave Pence, a former House member, a first-floor bonus office in the U.S. Capitol shortly after President Trump was inaugurated in 2017.

Remember when Congressman Cummings got all that credit for his handling of the Michael Cohen hearing? He was clear in saying Mr. Cohen I told you “in private” that if  you lie I will prosecute immediately.
Well, Cohen lied. Cummings announced he has no plans to charge him.

Speaking of Cohen, did you see he is suing the Trump organization $2M for his legal fees? They should sue him for failed counsel and recover what they paid him.

Did anyone report that President Trump again donated his salary last quarter? He gave the money to alcohol research, a cause close to his heart.
Bet you didn’t hear that, but yet the left keep saying he is profiting from the office. We don’t think so.

The 2020 budget proposal ($4.7 trillion) from the administration was submitted. It would produce a whopper of deficit spending ($1.1 trillion).
As other President’s have done, it proposes to eliminate the deficit after the administration is gone. In this case by 2034.
We’ve seen this play before. At some point we need to deal with this issue.

You no doubt read all about the college admissions’ scandal. But did you read 32 of the 33 identified individuals were major Democratic party donors? The one who donated to Republicans also donated to the Democrats.
What bothers us is the hypocrisy of these people. White Privilege, unfair advantages to people, all their noise and what are they, the real privileged class doing?  It absolutely disgusts us and the shame is they will all walk because of who they are.

So let me understand this. Jeanine Pirro is suspended or fired because of her comments on Rep. Ilhan Omar.  Apparently Pirro questioned whether Omar’s wearing of a hijab was “indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which is in itself antithetical to the U.S. Constitution.”
For that she is suspended, and oh yea, Omar doesn’t even get reprimanded for her comments?

You may know that Juan Williams, the unapologetic liberal voice on FoxNews, has a son who is a strong Republican. Raffi Williams was active on campus and now is a voice for the party. Well here’s one you may not know. The President of the Conservative Student Organization is John Rice-Cameron. He is the son of the infamous Susan Rice, the former Obama National Security Advisor. She is famous for going on all the Sunday shows to blame a video for Benghazi.

Finally, we nominate Anthony Comello as the dumbest criminal in America. He is the person who shot and killed the NY mob boss, that everyone thought a was “family hit”. It was, except Comello was not in any mob. He was dating a relative of the mob leader and heard the gentleman didn’t approve.
First, Comello is lucky the police found him before Calli’s “friends”did. Second, in what prison does he think he will be safe now?

The News Makes You Stop …..

Editor’s Note: This blog is going to take a long weekend and be back next week.

Today In The News:
  • Two Michael Cohen Stories that the news networks reported differently.

    1. The Anti Cohen Story:
After fanatically denying in his testimony last week that he ever asked for a pardon, this report released this morning:
Michael Cohen told his attorney to seek a pardon from President Trump. Mr. Cohen, a former lawyer for Mr. Trump, directed his attorney last spring to inquire about the possibility. Even his lawyer acknowledged the request.
One more strike against his credibility.

    2. But, the New York Times reported this story instead of that:
Cohen Offers Documents in Bid to Show Trump Lawyers Helped With False Testimony
President Trump’s former lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, brought drafts of a 2017 statement he made to Congress, along with emails with Mr. Trump’s lawyers about its drafting.

Comment: It’s clear Michael Cohen is no witness to have on a stand. The sooner he begins serving his sentence, the better off we are.

  • In the never ending Trump/Russia story get ready for lots of noise today as Paul Manafort gets sentenced. Forget it has nothing to do with the President and the election, the MSM will cover this like Watergate 2.
He is scheduled to be sentenced today on tax and bank-fraud charges. The sentence could see him spend much of the rest of his life in prison.
Now, if he never got involved with the Trump campaign he would still be freely roaming the world today.
  • The President has talked so much about the U.S. trade deficit and the need to fix it. He has cancelled deals, forced issues and even put tariffs out there. So what has happened?

The U.S. trade deficit on goods hit a record high in 2018.
The deficit on goods grew 10% last year to $891.3 billion.
U.S. imports grew 7.5%, while exports increased just 6.3%.

Economists say the shortfall was fueled by tax cuts and spending increases that juiced demand from U.S. consumers and businesses as growth slowed around the world.
So if they’re right, the U.S. economy was robust and the world’s wasn’t so we consumed more goods. That’s god but the deficit was negative.

  • Meanwhile the Democrats are continuing to divide as a party:

They split over how to respond to comments by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D. Minn.). A vote on a resolution condemning anti-Semitism that was sparked by her comments has been delayed. The draft resolution by Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats didn’t name Ms. Omar, but condemned “allegations that Jews should be suspected of being disloyal neighbors or citizens
“We’re working on language,” said Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.

The far left of the Democratic party is akin to the anti tax group that impacted the Republicans eight years ago. This divide can be even wider and in a general election devoid of “Russian Influence” and other charges will hurt them badly.

  • With all the noise at the border, Sen. Lindsey Graham said this yesterday:

“It is no coincidence that these two groups — unaccompanied minors and family units — are crossing the border at an alarming rate. Our immigration laws require that both unaccompanied children and family units be released into the interior of the United States after apprehension. This is due to two legal loopholes… the Flores settlement agreement and the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act. Flores requires children, or… family units, to be released after 20 days in custody,” said Graham.
“The TVPRA requires unaccompanied alien children from noncontiguous countries to be released to Health and Human Services care facilities instead of being sent back to their countries of origin,” he said.
Under the act, children from Mexico and Canada can be returned to their countries — but the provision doesn’t apply to Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, an omission Graham wants fixed.

Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said that 63 percent of illegal border crossings would be addressed just by changing those laws.
Think about that, 63%. Makes you ask, do our elected officials want a solution?

Finally, just to be sure as we all know that as much as things change they remain the same. This from the WSJ today

March 7, 1911
Thousands of Troops Sent to U.S.-Mexico Border

Amid the Mexican Revolution, President William Howard Taft mobilized nearly 20,000 U.S. troops to the southern border. The move marked a strategic shift after the U.S. had largely stayed out of events to the south. It was believed that the real intention was to prevent any damage to American property during the revolution, which would last until May 1920.

Staying Updated …..

Just staying updated on the stories and news of the day:

  • You have heard about the questions of Congressperson’s Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) funding for her campaign. That’s because you watch or read more than the network news (CBS, NBC and ABC), because they have never covered it. That’s right, zero minutes on their morning and evening news.
  • So Mike Bloomberg is out. Why? It wasn’t he said winning the Presidential election in November 2020. It was winning the Democratic nomination.  Think about that. Climate Mike, who wanted to outlaw large drinks in NYC was too conservative for a Democratic primary.
Just another sign on how far left the party has gone.
  • Now we hear that North Korea is restoring a missile launch site it had claimed to be dismantling. This according to released commercial satellite photos and people briefed on South Korean intelligence.
The developments concern the Tongchang-ri site, which N. Korea has used to test engines for liquid-fueled rockets and conduct satellite launches.
This calls into question once again the statements that President Trump makes. After that first meeting he claimed he had a deal, and as has happened before with him, he misinterprets or misreads the situation.
He hasn’t learned yet that dealing in politics and world leaders is not like real estate deals. Look for Democrats to attack here.
  • All of a sudden we get news and numbers on border activity that tells us there is a crisis. Shouldn’t the President have used these numbers to argue his position and not make it appear he was simply reacting to congress?
    Just look at this information:
The U.S. set a record in five months for number of migrant families arrested at the southern border in a year. Border Patrol arrested 136,150 people for crossing illegally from October through February. The 12-month record was 107,212. I would think that’s a crisis for our border security and the people themselves.
What is the Democratic answer? I am so tired of hearing Senators like Blumenthal telling me the President “wants a vanity wall”. Senator, you have been there for over a decade, what did you do about the border that worked?
  • After criticizing the President here is the headline in today’s NYT:
Border at ‘Breaking Point’ as More than 76,000 Migrants Cross in a Month.
The number of migrants apprehended on the southwest border is up about 90 percent from levels recorded at the same time last year.

Welcome to the real world NYT. Now is it a crisis?
  • Yesterday we mentioned watch Venezuela. Bloomberg news today:
The rhetoric the Trump administration is deploying against Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro risks creating the perception of a trigger-happy superpower, a perception the Maduro regime is happy to use to its benefit.
I think the administration thought Maduro could be toppled quickly and now has a problem.
  • Another foreign policy issue is quiet but will resurface soon. Members of both parties have castigated the Trump administration’s hesitance to assign blame for journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s  death. They are angry that the administration refuses to blame Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. This, despite U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded he ordered the killing.
A Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing this week on the administration’s response has revived legislative efforts to punish Saudi Arabia and rebuke the kingdom for its actions.
You will hear more on this. What do they want to do? Cut U.S. sales of arms and planes to Saudi Arabia. The problem is we cancel the sales, they buy from Russia. Do we want that? They need to find a different answer.
  • No one is talking about it in either party, but someone better wake up on the deficit. Here’s the report yesterday:
The U.S. budget gap widened in the first four months of the fiscal year. The government ran a $310 billion deficit from October through January. This is compared to $176 billion during the same period a year earlier. Thus a 77% increase, the Treasury Department said.
You simply cannot keep doing this and not face a day of reckoning.
  • Okay, is there any good news for the President? Yes, there is. On judges. Read this from Politicio today:
“President Donald Trump’s stream of judges is about to become a torrent. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his GOP caucus have long prioritized confirming conservative judges to lifetime appointments. But they’re about to accelerate their ability to unilaterally approve many nominees in dramatic fashion.

“The Senate is on track to confirm the 34th Circuit Court Judge of Trump’s presidency in the next week and the GOP has three more ready for floor action; that would give Trump roughly 20 percent of the Circuit Court seats in the country after just two years in office. At this rate, McConnell and Trump could leave few, if any, vacancies there for a potential Democratic president in 2021.

“Even more alarming for Democrats, the GOP is also preparing to pull the trigger on the ‘nuclear option’ and change Senate rules once again with a simple majority to allow much quicker confirmation of lower court judges in the coming months.”

The Beat Goes On ….

Let’s Look At The Morning News – Some You May Not have Seen

You no doubt saw and heard that the House Judiciary Committee has requested documents from 81 agencies and associates of President Trump. This is part of investigations the panel is opening into obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power. What is the committee pursuing?
The ultimate goal is to build a case to either impeach the President or destroy him enough that he cannot win re-election in 2020. Thus they are investigating and seeking to build a case against the president and his associates.
It’s that simple.
This is a whole new line outside collusion, which daily seems to have not occurred, despite all we heard for two years.
They will stop at nothing. The House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight committees are also investigating private presidential conversations. They announced in letters to White House chief of staff Mulvaney and Secretary of State Pompeo that they were investigating what the President and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed in person and phone conversations.
They will stop at nothing, so buckle up for at least two more years of investigations, leaks, charges on the air and fights in court.

The President’s Emergency Declaration,  is going to be an embarrassment. The house has already voted to overturn it. Now at least four, and as many as ten Republican Senators, appear ready to vote no on it. What that means is the President will veto their bill and congress will fall short of overturning the veto. But it says a lot, again, of Republican legislature support of the President.

Here’s a quote from Mitch McConnell which tells you about that support.
“I was one of those hoping the president would not take the national emergency route.”

Did you see that Hillary said she is not running in 2020? Isn’t it a shame that we are deprived of what so many called “the smartest woman in America” since the 1990’s. Do you feel deprived too?

Keep an eye on Venezuela. The military is holding strong for Maduro. Yesterday Juan Guaidó returned to the country. He was met at the airport by diplomats from countries that recognize him as interim president, and he later gave a speech to large crowds.
However, the threat of arrest still hangs over him and what many thought would be a quick coup now looks otherwise. This could get ugly.

The Alabama woman who joined ISIS lost her first round in court yesterday. A judge denied a request to consider her case on an emergency basis. (I guess the emergency is ISIS is defeated and has no home, so she wants to come back here).
Anyway, this is far from over and the judge did say, “She has a valid argument of citizenship”.
We expect her to win the argument to be allowed in. But we also expect an immediate arrest and charges as an enemy combatant that will lock her up for a long time. Guantanamo Bay is fine with us.

Let’s Look At the Democrats

There is a lot going on within the party that could drive than further left and truly divide them.

First Kamala Harris and then Bernie Sanders tried to get a little more left than the others by now saying they want legalized prostitution. This left push gets more interesting daily.

Now Alexandria Ocascio- Cortez’s is always in the news. Some see her as the voice of the Democraatic party these days. Well consider these three things from yesterday:
1. She is sponsoring a new tax on wall street.
2. Her Mom gave an interview and said she (the Mom) moved out of New York to Florida because her taxes were too high. Read that again. She moved because her taxes were too high. She gave an example of real estate taxes in NY versus her new home in Florida.
3. Cortez’s top aide is said to have illegally funneled campaign donations to two companies he owned. The complaint was filed Monday with the Federal Elections Commission.
The charge is that Saikat Chakrabarti set up a PAC to collect and bundle donations for newbie politicians including  Cortez. He then diverted more than $1 million to two of his companies that did campaign work, skirting reporting requirements, said the complaint by the National Legal and Policy Center.

Think of those three things together — and all in one day.

Now here’s a real problem for the Democrats. First term Congressperson  Omar again went after Isreal. The Jewish vote has long been Democratic and this new group is alienating them.  Check this story in Politicio today:

ON REP. ILHAN OMAR … SARAH FERRIS, HEATHER CAYGLE and JOHN BRESNAHAN: “House Dems will take floor action to confront Omar’s latest Israel comments”: “Speaker Nancy Pelosi and top Democrats will take floor action Wednesday in response to controversial remarks by Rep. Ilhan Omar about Israel, the second such rebuke of the freshman Democrat from party leaders in recent weeks.

“Pelosi and other senior Democrats have drafted a resolution to address the controversy, which ballooned over the weekend following a public clash between Omar and senior Jewish lawmakers. The resolution, which began circulating to members Monday night, comes after a backlash from top Democrats who accused Omar of anti-Semitism for referring to pro-Israel advocates’ ‘allegiance to a foreign country.’

“The draft measure is four pages that largely details the historyand recent rise of anti-Semitism in the U.S. but does not specifically name Omar, which had been an internal dispute among Democrats. Instead, it condemns the ‘myth of dual loyalty,’ using the same language as top Democrats, like House Appropriations Chairwoman Nita Lowey, who have condemned Omar in recent days.

“If the House moves ahead with the vote on Wednesday as planned, it would be an unprecedented public rebuke of Omar, who was sworn into office just over 60 days ago. Omar’s office declined to comment about the Democratic resolution on Monday. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and other senior Republicans are considering offering a censure motion against Omar, according to GOP sources. Republicans may also formally demand that Democrats strip Omar of her seat on the Foreign Affairs Committee, a move that Pelosi and other senior Democrats won’t take at this point.” POLITICO … The resolution

— THE PRESIDENT at 11:33 p.m.: “Representative Ilhan Omar is again under fire for her terrible comments concerning Israel. Jewish groups have just sent a petition to Speaker Pelosi asking her to remove Omar from Foreign Relations Committee. A dark day for Israel!”

The Week After ….

It’s the week after the big news week and through Sunday the media stayed focused on Michael Cohen and pivoted on N. Korea to the President’s workds on Otto Warmbier.
The President for his part gave a two hour speech at the C-Pac conference and delighted his base.
So on we go to another week, which barring a surprise ,Mueller report release should be much tamer.

With That Let’s Catch Up On Some Stories:

In the house last week the Republicans won a rare vote when they won a vote to have authorities notify deportation officers any time an illegal immigrant tries to buy a gun.  It seems to be a “no brainer” but the vote was 220-209 with 26 Democrats voting for the bill.
This led to Democrat anger and Nancy Pelosi had a meeting to warn the congressional members on loyalty, and believe it or not AOC was threatening primary challenges for them if they persisted in defying the party. Wow!

A new poll on the media said that confidence in their reporting had hit a new low. In fact over 50% said “they hardly had any confidence” in them at all. That was higher than congress (45%) got for no confidence. Pretty bad.
Only 25% said they had confidence in the media.
The group rating the media highest (42%), as fair and non biased were Democrats.

While on the media here are then numbers of coverage in primetime (7-10) on what they called “spilt screen day”.
CNN was 225 minutes on Cohen and 2 minutes on the summit.
MSNBC was at 203 minutes on Cohen and 10 on the summit.
FoxNews was spilt almost in the middle.

One more on the media. George Stephanopoulos who we often cite for his bias was interviewed and said this:
“We ensure that everything we do is accurate and fair”.
This from the person who worked in the White House for Bill Clinton. Who praised on the air and donated $75K to the Clinton Foundation in 2015 (while reporting on Hillary’s presidential run).
Check George’s coverage of Presidential debates and see who he declared the winner. And this week he said Michael Cohen’s testimony had a “ring of truth”.

On Taxes. Early last week there was major news that tax rebates were down  (to $2,600) this year. Of c0urse it was week one, but why waste a chance to attack the tax cuts? No doubt you saw and heard the story.
Well guess what? As of last week the average tax refund so far this filing season is now more than $3,100, the Treasury Department reported. In fact,
the average refund is $3,143, topping last year’s $3,103.
Any coverage of this?

It was big news, lost last week in the hysteria of Michael Cohen but the administration dropped the 25% tariff plan on Chinese goods. This means we came to the deadline (end of February) and suddenly there was movement at the table with China. Expect a deal in the next four weeks.
One of the reasons the President had to walk in the Vietnam meeting (besides it being the right thing), was he had to show China he is unafraid to do so. No one covered this aspect, but it was big.

I know there were some funny things to come out of the Cohen hearings but the funniest to us was the tweet the President did the minute he got in Vietnam.
“I have now spent more time in Vietnam than Da Nang Dick Blumenthal, the third rate Senator from Connecticut (how is Connecticut doing?). His war stories of his heroism in Vietnam were a total fraud – he was never even there. We talked about it today with Vietnamese leaders!”
The President never misses a chance to tweak an opponent.

The other that amused me was when Debbie Wasserman-Schultz was questioning Cohen. She wanted to know if he tried to influence the campaign. Wait, weren’t you the head of the Democratic party who had to resign because you were feeding Hillary information to influence the primary?

Finally it was amusing to hear Democrats say to Republicans you are obsessed with asking questions about his character and not the issues at hand. Really, you are lecturing now? Hello Kavanaugh hearings. Remember?
