With all thoughts on Houston and the work being done, and to be done, we know all other issues today are minor. We applaud the efforts of the responders and those doing all they are. They represent the best of who we are.
Credit goes to the Governor and Lt. Governor who smartly avoided the questions on politics and pushed every thought to helping. There will be post evaluations of the Mayor encouraging people to stay while the Governor was doing the opposite. It will be interesting to see how the MSM treats that, as well as the visit of the President today.
TRUMP PARDONS ARPAIO:
The pardon created a fire storm. It seemed to get bigger coverage than the Obama pardons of Chelsea Manning and Oliver Lopez Rivera, the FALN terrorist. Not surprising I guess.
We would have suggested that the President wait until the process played out. Arpaio was facing up to six months in jail and had an appeal ahead.
Funny too, how Republicans like Paul Ryan, John McCain and Jeff Flake turned on the President over this. As noted, Arpaio faced up to six months. Do you remember any Democrats turning on Obama over Manning (with 35 years remaining on her sentence) and Rivera (remember the FALN murdered and injured citizens and police)? As we commented many times, Trump is lacking support in his own party. In part because he attacks them.
The Russian Story Continues:
This in the Washington Post:
While Donald Trump was running for president in late 2015 and early 2016, his company was pursuing a plan to develop a massive Trump Tower in Moscow. “The details of the deal, which have not previously been disclosed, provide evidence that Trump’s business was actively pursuing significant commercial interests in Russia at the same time he was campaigning to be president.”
This was the second story over the weekend said that General Flynn may have asked the Russians for the 33,000 emails Hillary and team destroyed. Wouldn’t it just be like the Clintons that they destroy the emails with bleach bit, crushed phones and lost devices, but they walk away: while their opponent asks a hacker if they have them and goes to jail?
That’s the America we live in today.
While on that subject:
The list of statues that offend continues to grow, and it is moving beyond confederate soldiers, leaders, members, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and Christoper Columbus. You can add these:
Franklin Delano Roosevelt — who led the nation through the Great Depression and W W II and told Americans they had “nothing to fear but fear itself” — is nevertheless unworthy of having his name on Roosevelt Island, home to 9.700 New Yorkers. It should be renamed because of FDR’s “racist” decision to send Japanese-Americans to internment camps during World War II, a new petition demands.
“Roosevelt Island should be renamed because of FDR’s “racist” decision during World War II”. The petition is underway and says, “To add injury to insult, the name was taken away from the Native American people who were slaughtered by the American settlers”.
Also, in New York there is a drive to change the name and make up of Rikers Island prison. The story:
Rikers Island should be shut down because a descendant of the complex’s namesake was a notorious slave-catcher, protesters demanded. The demonstrators at the Queens end of the Rikers Island bridge want the prison included on Mayor de Blasio’s list of “symbols of hate’’ facing possible shutdown or removal. The activists waved signs reading, “Confederate monument’’ and “torture”. Rikers Island “has a long history of being owned by slave owners,’’ charged protester Alfredo Carrasquillo. He said Mayor de Blasio’s 10-year timeline for closing it down is too long. The mayor wants it replaced with more “humane,’’ smaller jails.
More on the state of left thinking:
Six people were injured, including a police officer, and 13 protesters arrested Sunday after a violent black-masked antifa mob swarmed Berkeley in order to protest a previously cancelled rally. The rally was scheduled to be a Patriot Prayer Rally.
Think about that, the rally was cancelled, yet thousands of protesters gathered in Berkeley to counter and got violent.
Antifa is as violent as an right group, they just don’t get covered.
And finally for today, this:
NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick will make it into Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture before longtime Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas.
Damion Thomas, the museum’s sports curator, said Kaepernick items will be featured in an exhibit on the Black Lives Matter movement, which Kaepernick has become a face of after he began protesting the national anthem last year at NFL games.
Judge Clarence Thomas, Dr. Ben Carson and others like Scholar Thomas Sowell are not represented in the museum.
Our heroes are reversed today.
North Korea Again:
After a two week quiet period North Korea fired a missile over Japan last night. This was a major provocation and caused Japan to have some panic in the area it flew over. Why did they do it? We are guessing because Japan is conducting military preparation exercises and the N. Korea leader wanted to show he is not afraid. Big ego on that little man, and sometimes ego’s can you get in big trouble as readers of this blog know.
