Comey Day Observations:
- Comey despises Trump and considers him a liar unfit to be President.
- He considers himself Mr. Honesty. Yet, he leaked a story to the NYT.
- This raised questions if the FBI has done more leaking.
- He did not have the courage of conviction to stand up to Trump or Lynch.
- The President was never under investigation for colluding with Russia.
- He is frustrated by the public not knowing this and feels hampered.
- The President is undisciplined and his ego is getting him into trouble.
- The press is running stories that are fake news. (CNN and NYT named).
- Marco Rubio asked, where’s the leak, President is not under investigation?
- Loretta Lynch was in collusion to protect the Clintons. Also not leaked.
The Details. Our view comes down to this:
The President as we’ve reported is undisciplined and his ego is too large. If he doesn’t learn how to be President events like this will continue and he will not survive. What fifth grader would not know he can’t meet with the FBI Director alone and talk like he did?
The President grew up always running his own business and having everyone respond to his commands. Being President is different and he hasn’t gotten that. How could the people around him not step in and say Mr. President that would not be right?
We think the President fired Comey because that’s what he did in business all his life. He would say (as Comey testified) you are doing great then have something go wrong and on impulse fire the person. That might work when your name is on the door of the company, but not here. So one night he got frustrated with Comey and decides to fire him. That’s why there has never been an actual reason and so many explanations. That’s why the story changed.
One more thing. Trump thought firing Comey would get him praise. He thought Schumer and the Democrats would support him because they were still seething over the Clinton probe. Wrong. They will never support him and he has to get over wanting to be loved.
Mr President, you want to be loved? Make the lives of Americans better.
Now Comey. He comes across as honest and a holier than thou person dedicated to the FBI and its mission. We are sure he sees himself that way. But he failed on a few occasions. He failed to stand up in key moments of crisis, and in life it is those moments we are measured on. When Loretta Lynch asked him to mis-categorize the Clinton probe, he backed down. When he felt President Trump was asking for something he shouldn’t, he froze. In key moments where integrity mattered more than his job he backed down.
The press. They lost yesterday too. Comey, their hero now, was clear that he was amazed at the false stories he keeps reading on this. The NYT and CNN pulled back stories as the hearing went on because they were wrong. CNN was on the air with “inside sources” saying Comey would “absolutely” testify that he never told the President he was not under investigation. Well Trump was right, he was told three times.
The press desire to get the President and yesterday’s testimony will make future credibility a real question.
Finally after the intelligence hearing on Wednesday where the department heads said they were never asked to do anything wrong and yesterday’s no investigation of the President report, we need to move on. Let Mueller do his job and the press needs to be more responsible. We suggest while he does the legislators try working on a fix to healthcare, reducing taxes, fixing bridges and defeating our enemies. Enough.
The Other Leaker:
Lost in all this other news was this report on Reality Winner the leaker arrested this week. She was denied bail, and it’s well that she was.
A federal prosecutor said in court that authorities had uncovered a series of “new and downright frightening” other acts by Winner, including inserting a thumb drive into her Air Force computer and taking classified information while she was still in the military.
“When you take a thumb drive in a top-secret computer as she did, we don’t know what happened to it,” U.S. Magistrate Judge Brian Epps said at the hearing. “That falls into the landscape of danger to the community but it is also a danger to the nation.”
Then he added:
Epps also cited her journal which federal agents found during a search of her Augusta home. She allegedly expressed support in her writings for Taliban leaders and Osama bin Laden as well as proclaiming she wanted to burn down the White House.
“She seems to have a fascination with the Middle East and Islamic terrorism,” Epps said. He quoted her as having written: “It’s a Christlike vision to have a fundamentalist Islamic state.”.
“Lock her up”.
New Press Poll:
A new Quinnipiac poll asked about the press and 59% were negative.
“I am going to mention four phrases and ask you which one best describes how you feel about the job the news media has been doing covering American politics. Do you feel enthusiastic, satisfied but not enthusiastic, dissatisfied but not angry, or angry?”
- Enthusiastic: 10%
- Satisfied: 30%
- Dissatisfied: 33%
- Angry: 26%
England Votes:
No clear winner in yesterdays election and now all sides go forth to try and build a coalition. Theresa May misevaluated for sure and it may cost her the job.
Now her major opponent was Bernie Sanders like. He wants to negotiate with terrorists, and has said he would never use nuclear weapons. He wants the country to be socialist.
A surprise to many after three terror incidents the past few months.
