Another day…

On Impeachment

After watching again yesterday I come back to this. If the House Democrats continue down the path they are on we will have created a division in this nation that will take decades to heal.

When you consider we have had only three impeachment proceedings in history you understand the severity of the act. Then, when you consider this would be the first time in any proceeding that we would have a partisan vote to impeach, you have to stop and think.

We elect a person to office and have the ability to remove them for only what section 4, article two of the Constitution calls: High crimes and misdemeanors. The article says this:
“The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

It was put there to protect the elected office holders from being overthrown from those who disagree with them. Thus, a partisan vote to impeach was unheard of and I dare to say never thought possible — until now.
Does Nancy Pelosi and her team really want to go down this path? Do they really believe in their hearts that this President committed “High Crimes and Misdemeanors” of such a magnitude he should be removed from office?
I just can’t believe they will allow a partisan vote in which some Democrats will vote with all the Republicans against, and send the charges to the senate. We have an election by the people in eleven months!

In the senate, Mitch O’Connell may well drag out the trial to the frustration of the Democratic primary candidates and make the case look weak. Which Senators on the Democratic side want to fall on their swords there? Is it Chuck Schumer? Maybe Kamala Harris in a bid to save her presidential run? Warren? It will only be those in safe Democratic states, that’s for sure.

When the senate votes to kill the impeachment, then what? Will the people realize we wasted three years on collusion, then more time on the Ukraine and got nothing but a bill from it?
When the President says he was working to drive the economy, fix world problems and put America First, what will the House Democrats say?

I think without a smoking gun they are walking a dangerous path right now. Their personal desires and drive may have gotten ahead of the available facts, and that is a bad place to be – for their sake and the country.
